Walking for 30 minutes at least 4 times a week outside sure beats pounding it out on a treadmill tucked away inside with other sweating bodies! Not only do you grab your share of essential Vitamin D for the day the fresh air clears your mind, tones your butt, legs and stomach and the great thing is anyone can do it. You don’t need any fancy coloured lycra and fluro designer shoes to get out and get your heart pumping, shift your metabolism into a high gear burning more calories, keep your blood pressure low and your immune system at a healthy level all year round. Want to get your weight loss moving here’s the plan for Warrior Walking:

Start walking at a good pace for at least 5 minutes to warm up your muscles.

Then start doing a burst of power walking (interval walking) by walking as fast as you can for at least 2 minutes, if you can go longer, go longer.  Think like a Warrior and a wild savage animal is chasing you and you fear for your life! Go hard as you can for as long as you can. Then slow back down again to a good pace for you then when you are ready to go again go hard.  What this does is tricks your body to burn more fat and calories by shifting your metabolism up a gear. Cool trick and it works as your body keeps burning more fat and calories even after you have finished your walk.

Doing something is better than doing nothing and every walk you do increase your speed and total distance on different days. Variety is the key here so you may do a 20 minute walk one day and then a 30 minute and then build up to an hour but keep it fresh and different. Challenge yourself with different terrains, beach, hills, parks and reserves so you use different muscle groups as well. You never get bored checking out the scenery on the way and imagining the different wild animals chasing you!
